Tropical Jungle Body Lotion

I'm always looking for new products in the Lush Kitchen that I haven't bought before so when I saw that the Tropical Jungle Body Lotion was on the menu, I knew that I had to get my hands on a tub of it.

I was expecting this lotion to smell quite fruity - like pineapples or oranges - but upon looking at the ingredients and seeing vetivert oil, cypress oil and ylang ylang oil, I knew that I wasn't going to get fruity.

Vetivert is a tall grass that grows wild and the oil is obtained from the dried roots of the plant. It's because of this particular plant that Tropical Jungle smells more earthy to me, not the smell of dirt, but the smell of the morning dew in a forest or as the name of the products suggests, imagine the sun rising over a jungle where it had been raining the night before, but this morning, it's warm. The heat gives off the wet, earthy jungle scent.

This oil is said to also be used as a warming oil for muscular pain. In this case, as it's a body lotion, vetivert is recommended for tired skin.

The woody aroma is also from the cypress oil that is found within Tropical Jungle body lotion, as is extracted from the leaves and cones of the Italian cypress tree. As an oil, cypress is an antiseptic but used in this lotion, this warm fragrance is said to relieve stress and calm nerves.

Going hand in hand with both of these ingredients is the ylang ylang oil that is obtained from the flowers of the ylang tree. Ylang ylang oil is used in aromatherapy and to tackle stress and depression; the floral smell of this ingredient underlines the scents of the vertivert and cypress oil and is hardly noticeable, but after using this product a few times, I did start to detect a slight floral smell to it.

If you don't like overpowering woody smells, then this body lotion is not for you.

The first time I used this lotion, I was surprised at the consistency; I expected it to be quite thick but it was actually quite thin. I didn't have to use a lot at all for my skin to feel silky smooth - this is due to the cocoa butter and the almond oil. However, if you use slightly too much, it does leave your skin feeling slightly greasy which isn't very nice. The amount shown on my fingers in the picture above covered one of my arms and did a brilliant job, so any more than that will make you feel greasy and sticky.

Once I had moisturised the entirety of my body, I marvelled at how amazing it smelt and how strong it was. The longevity of this lotion is amazing too, I put it on before I went to bed and the next morning, I could still smell it on my skin. In fact, it didn't really go away until around midday which was very impressive.

If this was a regular product at Lush, I would definitely be spending a lot of money on buying loads of tubs and the next time that it comes out in the Lush Kitchen, I will be doing just that: buying a few more so that I can stock up because this product is amazing.

Overall, Tropical Jungle body lotion can be greasy if you use too much of it which is annoying because you shouldn't have to careful figure out specifically how much is going to make your skin greasy. But it does smell amazing and if you DO get the right amount, then it will leave your body feeling smooth and smelling amazing for up to 12 hours.
